Hi I would just like to let you know (as a qualified trainer and reseller for iMindMap and a Buzan Licensed Instructor BLI) This software is NOT BY Tony by licensed by Tony and they guys who produce the software are iMindMap (Chris Griffiths and his team) might be a tad upset.

iMindMap is an amazing piece of software that follows the rules that Tony Buzan has developed. After many attempts by many huge developers this is the ONLY piece of software that has ticked all the boxes and thus Tony Buzan has licensed the use of Buzan in the publicity. I have noticed that in you example mind map shown in this post that you have not followed the ‘golden rule’ of one word per branch and the BoI that are so important in Mind Mapping. I hope that you enjoy the software and have fun using it, I do and its great fun to teach it to others too. I have started to use iMindMap and hand drawn images as well, follow this link and see what Paul Foreman has written about this: http://mindmapinspiration.blogspot.com/2009/02/combining-imindmap-and-hand-drawn.html

Good point, I have changed my blog title to read ‘endorsed by’ as these are the words used on the iMindMap site.

I am a visual thinker and learner which I beleive is one of the key reasons why mind mapping is working so well for me.

I aspire to the creative heights of your amazing mind map creations and I love the generosity of your blog and website

As an enthusiastic novice and advocate of iMindMap I am still relishing the whole process of using mind maps both hand drawn and digital.
I did try using the ‘golden rule’ but found it restricting and my mind maps started getting too large. I often us iMindMap to present information to others and therefore it needs to be readable at A3 and ideally A4.

Hi Hannah
You are very kind. I would be happy to help you understand the golden rule and how it is possible to get the BOI right in whatever form you are using, but it does take a lot of getting used to, I agree.

Hey Guys,

Yes, I was wondering why they used the term ‘endorsed by’ Tony Buzan and I initially thought it was Tony Buzan’s team who developed iMindMap.

No wonder this is the case. Research shows that the potential of a human brain can be brought out much more effectively with the use of different colors and graphics to represent the groups of thoughts.

I have seen some other mind mapping softwares and some of them are just clustering the information into smaller chunks.

Hi David,

I use a combination of the software and hand drawing because the ‘clip art’ is not so organic and does not have that creative feel. However in the last few days I have been using hand drawn with digital remdering and then adding the image to my image library to use in the software.
What ever way you look at it using graphics, colour and text makes much much better use of your brain power than linear notes that’s for sure. iMindMap is the only true mind mapping software, others are technically visual mapping which of course has its place………………

Thanks for your comments David
I like your review blog.
I have only tried a couple of other mind mapping software tools, but I definately liked iMindMap the best.
It has helped me revive my creativity with regards to note taking and allows me to avoid endless pieces of paper.

Hi, I have not seen any of Tony’s books as audio downloads or heard any but there is a new (last week) DVD released which I have just seen. This can be purchased vis the Buzan shop or via me.

I would however suggest the Ultimate Mind Map Book as a bible of all things Mind Mapping. Again this can be purchased from the Buzan Online shop or via me.
There are also some You Tube videos which are short but sweet.
