This “Staying Objective” Learning Packet explore the emotional dilemmas you face as a school leader, how to see a situation from the other person’s point of view and how to distance yourself in order to get the best outcome for your children.
“Our parents, governors and even my staff don’t see me they see my chair”. These were the words of a headteacher 6 months into her first headship.
When you become a head teacher something happens that just doesn’t make sense to us. For others we stop being a human being with feelings and become ‘she’, ‘him’ or ‘they’. But we are still the same person we haven’t changed and we definitely still have feelings.
It is these feelings that can get us tied up in knots as we spend evenings agonising over a hurtful action or the words of an angry parent. Should we take it personally? Should we ignore it?
And what do we do when a member of staff bursts into tears on us?
Should we continue to tiptoe around the issue until it goes away?
Find out for yourself by growing leadership with the Staying Objective Learning Packet.
